Jennifer Lopez Talks About ‘Silly’ Taboo of Women Dating Younger Men
The actress/singer also shares her views on cheating.Jennifer Lopez continues her media tour to promote her latest film, The Boy Next Door, and in a recent sit-down interview with MadameNoire.com, the actress/singer opened up about her role in the film and a few of her lessons learned from past relationships. In the movie, her character, Claire, falls under the spell of her hunky — and younger — next door neighbor only to find out he’s an obsessive stalker. Lopez, who’s had her share of younger conquests, said that the idea of a woman dating a younger man is still seen as inappropriate both on-screen and off.
“I think it’s more taboo in life,” she said. “I think it’s something that at this point seems silly, but really is something that’s kind of the stereotypes that we’re dealing with of men and women.”
When asked what advice she’d share with Claire, Lopez gave some insight into why partners cheat and why it’s not an indication of your worth or character.
“It would be that when someone cheats on you it’s not about you. It’s really about them making a bad choice. It’s really about their low self-esteem. It shouldn’t give you low self-esteem or make you feel less than who you are. It really is their problem,” Lopez explained. “They never cheat on you because of you, they cheat on you because of them. That’s something I think is very empowering that women forget and men, too, when something like that happens because it really is a blow to our ego, but when you get the ego out of it, you go, ‘You know what? It’s not me, it’s you. And sad.’”
